Marketing Automation is the final step in the Four Step Marketing Process and is often overlooked because it sounds complicated. You’ll have to do some planning but the return-on-investment is huge. You’ve worked hard getting leads and sales, don’t let the relationship die. Stay in touch with customers by sending personalized and targeted messages on a schedule. Your follow-up is automatic because you put systems in place. You can send follow-up emails, texts, social media messages/posts, phone calls, direct mail, etc.
The marketing automation process focuses on two types of customers – The Prospect and The Current Customer.
They are interested but not ready to buy. Send messages that inform and educate them about your products and/or services and how it will solve their problem. For example, offer a free trial or consultation, comparative information, a referral contact that connects them with a raving fan. The purpose of this type of marketing automation is to nurture the prospect and convert them into customers. It may take several tries so don’t give up.
The Current Customer
They have already done business with you, but it doesn’t end there. The purpose of the messages to existing customers is to retain them, obtain feedback, and educate the customer about other products/services (upsell/cross-sell). Studies show that if you increase your customer retention 5% you’ll increase profit at least 25%. Besides, it’s a lot easier to sell to existing customers than it is to find new ones.
